My mother said a noted politician attended my great grandmother's funeral in Hell's Kitchen. She said his name was Owney Madigan. I know the underworld figure's name Owney Madden is very close and am trying to figure out who really did show up at the funeral. My mother said that it was big deal, a sign of respect for her and the family. One last question. The pledge not to drink was to a saint. My mother thought it was either St. Barnabus or St. Brendan. I'm writing a book about the family and love to get the details right. Any help appreciated.
