My mother is blood type O- and my father was O+. She had great difficulty with her pregnancies, participated in some very early clinical studies in the 1950s and early 1960s and as a result of those studies managed to have three children who survived. I understand that I was premature and had five complete blood transfusions as a newborn to save my life. What type of consuquences, if any, are known to occur from having transfusiosn like this as a newborn? Are there any references?
