25+ years ago, I had the privledge of joining a retreat animated by Jean Vanier. I also spent a short time in a L'arch community. I have been blessed to have worked with individuals with developmental disabilities for 30 years. Even though I have not kept up with Jean and the L'arche communities, for many years, I feel that the strong influence of Mr. Vanier, has enriched the life that I have had the privlege of sharing with people with disabilities.
I, too believe that people with intelllectually limitations are truly a gift to those of us to need to learn about being vulnerable. In their unconditonal acceptance of those who are their of caregivers, we, the caregivers, can grow spiritually and live a more simple, peaceful life.
