My images are too contrasty / Nikon D200.....the shadows and dark areas are nearly solid. Mid tones and highlights seem OK. I have to PhotoShop every image to deal with contrast.

How do I control contrast in my camera?

I just bought a mint condition D200.



Also,
I use an SB 800 flash.
When mounted on the D200, the letters FP - which means focal plane - appear at all times with whatever mode I've selected. What's going on here?
This does not happen on my D90 nor did it happen on my D-70.
