My great-grandfather was John Campbell who from what my family know, came from Glasgow in the latter part of the 1800s to fight in the Anglo-Zulu war in South Africa. He brought with him a family bible that had family history, a piece of kilt and a dried heather flower. The bible, however got misplaced. Upon arrival or after the war, he married my great-grandmother, a Cape malay slave from Malaysia that he met in Cape Town and settled in Tsolo in the former Transkei. According to my mother, who's grandfather it was, he used to sing a song called "the Campbells are coming from Glasgow" He had a son, my grandfather Thomas.
