My grandfather who served in WWII as an RCAF Lancaster Bomber Tail Gunner recently passed away. While looking at his medals I noticed that the DFC he was awarded has white and red diagonal stripes instead of the purple and white stripes. Is there any reasoning for this change in colors? His rank by the time he returned home was Warrent Officer if that has anything to do with the red stripes.
