My feelings at seeing this monument

I am a native Lexingtonian and my mother often took us to the Lexington cemetery to feed the ducks, to see the flowers in the spring, to give us a mini history lesson so I am very familiar with the monument. As a child I was afraid of it as it looked like something from a horror movie where at any moment a hand would stick up out of soil around it. I know...overactive imagination. Last year my sister and I went to the cemetery specifically to look at this monument and I can honestly say as an adult my first sense was of overwhelming grief and the thousands of tears shed over the young men who fought in this war. As I continued to look at it, I began to cry and it struck me that this one monument captured the agony and grief our country had to go through to continue growing as a people united. And I felt history as I never felt before. I'm interested in knowing what others thought of this monument.
