My father was in the 36th Combat Engineers, participated in the invasions of North Africa, Sicily, Anzio and Southern France. Is anyone outthere know of this outfit or have relatives who served in the 36 Combat Engineers?

The unit was activated at Plattsburgh Barracks New York, 1 June 1941, with two battalions. In September 1942, a battalion from the 540th Engineer Combat Regiment was disbanded and became the 36th's 3rd battalion. The 36th continued to work as a three battalion unit throughout the war.

It was a very important unit. You should be proud of your father.I unfortunately do not know the outfit...

My father was also with the 36th engineers at Anzio, Southern France. I believe they were in Morocco and may have trained in Iran if you can imagine that.I think Anzio was their most hard fought battle. Also General Truscott was their commander I think.
