My ancestors were DOUGLAS's from Farr, Sutherlandshire who arrived there from the Roxburgh and Northumberland areas around the 1820s or perhaps a little before. I am wondering why there was that movement north at that time when many families were being displaced at that time? Isabella DOUGLAS born at Farr in 1824 was married to a William DOUGLAS born in 1816 at Lowick, Northumberland. Even William went to Farr to marry her! Can anyone pleae explain this northward movement at that time?
