My Grandfathers brother (Pte Michael Dee) was a member of 1st Battalion RMF, he was killed in France on the 5th September 1916. I was hoping to find more details of when and how he lost is life. I know the battalion was part of the 48th Brigage of the 16th Irish Division. I also know that they were ordered south of the Somme and arrived in the line facing Ginchy around the 5th September. I have seen reports of the battalion taking around 200 casualities from Gas attacks during this deployment. I believe he died before the Battle on Ginchy and speculate that he was probably one of the 200 casualities that were killed during the deployment.

I'm really after confirmation of when and how he died and would really like to find out more details of his service etc...

If anyone can advise my on the best way to achieve this I would be most grateful.

Kind regards

Sean...

Sean - That's interesting. I had a relative named Michael Dee killed at the Somme. He was from Knocklong, Co. Limerick. I wonder if there is a connection here. There must be.

Hi Chris,

Yes my Grandfather was Thomas Dee who lived at The Cross of the tree until he died in 1989. How are you related to Michael Dee?

Have you been able to find any details about his service career?

Kind regards
