The mayans were electroplating copper statues, cortez thought they were gold, until he got them back to europe and tried to melt them down into coinage, the science of the day led by things like astrology and the belief that the earth was the center of the universe, flat and square, the leading scientists wondered how thw savages hammered the gold onto the copper. The books were burned, along with the binary computers, the mayans had hundreds, they kept records on binary computers made of rows of knotted ropes, they final decision to do the burning was done when they murdered the scientists, they were guilty of heracy for claiming the earth orbited the sun, they were murdered to save their souls, the bishop forgave them of their sins and murdered them to prevent them from committing more sins, so they could enter heaven or wherever, with a clean slate. They evidence rests in the vatican archeives, and was written up a few years back, for a few years running, never made it into the academic ventures history books, interesting, the humble beginning of electricity and binary computers.

In the late 70's the science periodicals listed all the data I am repeating, they were discoveries of stone crucibles with distilled like tomato residue in the bottoms, and there were copper electrodes. The data was so confrontational what with the kite string franklin idea, and the babbage sketches, it was apparantly not persued by the upper eschelon academic ventures. There were not enough of surviving paprus codices remaining to decipher myan code to accurately read either their calenders, or the codices. Lets see, Did the Mayans have the ability to produce electricity ? that sounds a bit like cortez when he was reported to have said, he wondered how the mayans hammered the gold onto copper. Interesting comment---what does electroplating mean to a 12th century guy?
