Toque Macaque
Matrilineal Dominance?

I was recently watching a show on Animal Planet called "Dark Days in Monkey City" (which seems to be a heavily fictionalized portrayal of the life of Toque Macaques). The show portrayed tribes of monkeys being led by female queens. What I'm wondering is, are these monkeys really led and controlled by females or are the more aggressive males the dominant powers within the macaques' hierarchies? The BBC's page on toque macaques says that there is a "clear male dominance hierarchy", but on theprimata.com's page on the species states "there is a hierarchical system amongst group members based upon the matriline". Which one is true?
