Just finished a book on Custer (Philbrick) stating that Custer WAS mutilated. Eyewitness who came upon the Custer party from Reno's detachment saw an arrow shoved into a very private place. Other accounts stated he was not touched. Was wondering where the truth is.

Thanks.

Well i think that is a rumor that was told in the civil war. Probaly because people in that time hated him. Look its up on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Armstrong_Custer and it will tell you. and you're welcome.

It is most likely true; I would be surprised if it was not. Indians generally believed the way one was afflicted in this world would follow then to the next. They wanted to make their enemies weak in the next world. Torture and mutilation was common; in some cases even children.
