I've seen conflicting stories about why Enrico Fermi left Italy. One story is that his wife was Jewish and he feared for her safety and the safety of their children under the growing totalitarian threats. The other story is that he simply wanted a better source of funding for research. These are not incompatible and neither story is unreasonable, but can someone shed some light on the truth.
