the servants of GOD just follow His commandments without thinking any logic. If your a Muslim, why you want to go in deep n if your a non Muslim what you will do with the logic in case is apprised to you.

Most of our rituals have some origin from our prophets. eg, sacrificing a cow/bull or whatever in eid al adha is related to Abraham and Ishmael.
the running between safa and marwa in hajj also dates back to abraham.
abraham, when his wife hagar got pregnent, lead her to mecca where there was no man back then . so she ran from safa and marwa desperately to see if there is any trace of water or human inhabitation. she did it 7 times. and this is what we do in hajj.
the origin of jamjam well is also related to this incident. when hagar found no water, angel gabriel dug the earth to provide water to her, and that is known as jamjam well now.
