Is there any evidence that X.cheopis, apart from the possible delay in its pre-adult stage until conditions are suitable for it, can hibernate in the absence of food? If, for example, there were no rats, other animals or humans around when its host died.

They can live up to a year in the cocoon stage if conditions are not favorable.

Thanks, but I covered that possibility in my question... 'pre-adult'?? It is as adults that I need to know about.
