Is it possible to find records of my paternal grandfather WALTER WRIGHT born 13 JUNE 1874 who served in the Boer war 1898 to 1902. He reached the rank of L/corporal, and often spoke of his experiences in the Mounted Infantry his medal has Bars of CAPE COLONY, ORANGE FREE STATE, TRANSVAAL, SOUTH AFRICA 1901, SOUTH AFRICA 1902.
I recall he was known as "Scrubby" and that he also served in India from 1914 to 1918. He lived at Hackney when married, but lived at Manor Park Essex until 1950. He told me many stories of his experiences and that he would have liked to stayed in SA, but as the old music hall song says "My wife wont let me".
Unfortunately papers that had his number and other details have not been refound.
Any sugestions re records or books would be appreciated.
