It is whichever you want it to be. For that matter, it can be what you want it to be at any time you want it to be that.

The distinction is subjective, no matter how precisely the narrative describing the difference might be, the authors could just as easily have written the definition with the boundary moved a tad one side or the other.

For most people over the age of (12? pick one) it will always be a planet even if we deny it in parole. The concept of that body in our society has for millennia been that it is a planet.

The Cashew is an excellent simile. People in general call them nuts and are surprised, perhaps shocked, to learn that botanically it is a seed.

The Orca, the "killer whale" is not a whale at all but a dolphin, a very large dolphin with very large attitudes, but still a dolphin.
