Hau Koda's,

Greetings, My name is WesleyHansen I am a member of the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe, Flandreau,S Dakota..My Mother
was Beatrice Heminger/Wakeman. I wasn raised by my Grandfather Felix Heminger who's mother was Ruth Wakeman, daughter of Wowinape. As a youth Grandpa would send me over to Grandpa Jesse's (Wakeman) to chop wood and carry in coal for his stove. I remember well when Grandpa Felix talked on the phone to then Attorney Gen Robert Kennedy when our family was gettings Ta-Oyate-Duta's remains from the MN historical society.I remember the service well, now Jesse and Felix are buried next to thier Grandfather. My Grandfather,Felix was given A pair of moccasins by Grandpa Jesse, the moc's belonged to Wowinape, which he had carried with him throughout the aftermath of the 1862 war.I now have
the pair of moccasins which I will pass on to my son Joseph.
I just thought perhaps someone may be interested that some of Wowinape and his history still survive. I thank those responsible for this site, nina wopida.

With rspect,

Wesley Hansen
