In the beginning of chapter nine, why does Susan say that her dad could help them? She keeps repeating that same statement, and I don't really know why. Did I miss some detail about her father that would explain it?

I think it is really werid that she would say something like that. I guess like whenever were little our dad's could do anything & that's the mind frame she had at the moment.
I hope that made sense?

Yeah, Madi. That made sense. And that might possibly have something to do with it. I know I thought that when I was younger. I guess that means that Susan still thinks very highly of her father.

Still, Susan could think her dad could do anything & could really help them out.

I think Susan is probably a BIG daddy's girl and probably still imagines him as invincible. When I was younger I thought this, and I don't think Susan has ever grown out of it.

Hmmm... I don't know. There are a lot of teens who don't relate quite so easily to dads (you know--the whole rebellion thing). Plus, many families are separated by this time. Mine was. My dad was never important to me. Maybe she is just using him and/or hoping for whatever she can get to help her. Your theories seem most likely though. Princess syndrome sounds reasonable.
