In 1987 there was a floating logging camp managed by Richard Gildersleeve on the island. Does anyone know the name of the inlet where it was located?

I lived there in the early 1980s and it was Whale Pass.

Wow, what a great site! But no, it wasn't Whale Pass. That must have been before we worked for Gildersleeve. I think Keeton had two or three camps going. It was
something inlet, and I guess I'll have to break down and contact Keeton. I lived at two camps with my ex-husband, Barry Shaw. He was a cook. The Gildersleeve camp was beautiful, the other one (on Zarembo Island, was pretty bad. Are you still in my beautiful Alaska? Carlene Poynter

You may have found out by now but I will still post just in case. It was In Polk Inlet at that time. I grew up on that camp and Richard is my Uncle. I miss that life style so much anymore. It was so awesome. A great place and lifestyle for a Kid to grow up in.

The Whale pass camp was a different one run by Richards older brother Roger Gildersleeve.

I'm helping to edit a book written by a school teacher who served in the Polk Inlet School. The book is about her experiences at the floating log camp over a 6-year period.

Question: Do you have some pictures of the camp? What I would like to have is an aerial shot of the camp, but even shots of the camp itself would be great.

We worked in Polk Inlet, Dora Bay, then moved in with Keatons camp at Grace Harbor. We towed things out of there in 1998 or 99 after he shut down. What was the name of the teacher? Biz (Lisabeth).

I worked at Polk the 87 season. We were only running two sides that summer and there was no school at the time. I still have some slides I took of the camp and some of the surrounding area including some old totems we found in the woods out past Franks Creek.
