In 1802, Henry Muhlenberg was working with William Hamilton of the Woodlands in Philadelphia, attempting to propagate and cultivate the Buffalo Nut, a newly found plant, which was eventually named Pyrularia pubera Michx, but Muhlenberg named the plant in 1804 in honor of Hamilton, not realizing it had been preceeded by Michaux' work.
