I'm not an audio engineer (you'll probably be sure of that, after reading my question[!])
I've heard several "raw" recordings of v/o and music sessions but, don't know the significance of the "tones" between takes.

I DO know that they were inserted into recordings so that the beginnings and ends of cuts would be easier to find, either by hearing them when listening to tape as it was rewound / fast-forwarded or through automation and... you can potentially SEE the tones in a waveform.

I 'm probably wrong but, here's what I THINK:
__If a take is BAD, a SINGLE tone will FOLLOW it-- If a take is GOOD, a DOUBLE or Triple will follow it(???)
