DVD recorder

I want to transfer my home movie of the family past years onto dvd disc,
I bought dvd recorder and find its not so easy to do,
First thing is it comes up on tv screen wrong disc.
but im useing the wright disc.
it plays music and films with same disc but not alloy blank disc for recording.

Have you tried another disc, because sometimes you get a dud.
