I want to discuss what a Karjalanpiirakka is.Pirog = (Swedish word), piirakka =( Finnish word).
The pirog is originally from Karelia, the area lost in 1944 to Russia , Vyborg and all the way to St.Petersburg. The pirog is very popular all over Finland.
A rye dough with a small amount of wheat is made, then made thinn and cut oval and a rice filling made of riceporrage is placed in the middle ,sides are bent over and wrinckeled and then baked in oven. Served warm with cooked egg smashed and mixed with butter or margarin.
Other versions could have mashed potatoes or mashed carrots.
Karjalanpiirakka.Karelska piroger. Recept can be found on google and translated.
