I vividly recall an observation made by Eric Hoffer, but am only half-sure it was in a TV interview in the late sixties, and I can't find the exact quote anywhere. The gist of it was: "England reminds me of an old man, a ruined aristocrat who is shocked to discover in his old age how poor and pitiful he is." Does anyone recognize this comment?
