I remember a legend (?) that claimed the Rouge River, from which the city of River Rouge, Michigan derived its name I am told, once ran (rust) red because of discharge from the Ford Motor Company iron smelter that converted iron ore to steel for automobiles. Is that true, and/or was the river named so because of red cedar trees on its banks?
