Mat (picture framing)

I recently had a print framed with matting. Has anyone ever heard of matting not being equal on all sides. When I got the print back the top and two sides were equal. The bottom was about a half inch wider. I was told by the framer that this was done because my print was bottom heavy? They said that the illustrations were more to the bottom so they did this to equal the print out. It doesn't look bad. Are they trying to snow me because a mistake was made. I have never seen this before. I paid quite a bit to have this done.

I am replying to myself. I am ignorant to the framing process so I researched some more. The technique is called weighting. It is very common to do this when the focal point of the picture happens to be at the bottom. This was the case with my print. I differ to the experts. I should have known the framer knew what she was doing. I stand corrected and educated.
