.300 Winchester Magnum

I mounted a scope on a Rem. 700, .300 Win Mag for a friend. Trouble is he insists on see-through mounts. I mounted everything well, sighted it in, and shot it.
I got a tight 3-shot group at 25yds, except the group was 2 3/4" low (180gr bullet).
I adjusted the scope all it would allow to attempt to raise the point of impact, but 2 3/4" low was all I could get.
Not wanting any further expense and pain from further shooting, I am wondering what I can do.
Without further shooting till my shoulder & body will recover, can someone please help.
What can I expect the point of impact to be at 100 yds?
Does the darn see-through mount have to be shimmed? If so, which one, front or back (and by how much)?
Any other help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
