Air Force Security Forces

I know someone who told me that he was in the USAF SF during the Viet Nam War. He says he still is not allowed to talk about what he did, where he was or anything about his assignments. He said there are still people who would be in danger if he did and that he would be as well because he was sworn to never talk about these things.

Is this possible? I thought there was a 10 yr. limit or something like that.

Thank you for your time.

Hi, Jan. I recently discovered this forum and judging by the date on your question, you may never see this. However, I will try to clarify.

I was an air force cop, and I was in the air force for about 22 years. I spent a total of 27 months and 25 days in Vietnam, and I worked in many functions. Being a cop for that long you tend to hear about almost everything kind of duties we fulfilled overthere, and there were some interesting ones to be sure. However, nothing I ever heard of would be precluded from discussion after all this time.

There was one position as a security supervisor at the embassy that I am sure was sensitive. There were secret and secure communication sites that were guarded by cops that also supposedly required the cops to eliminate the people inside rather than let them be captured, and there is some evidence to substatiate that.

Now, as to the AF Special Forces in Vietnam - never heard of them. There were some elite-type outfits used to extract downed airmen (maroon Berets) and a few other things, but I don't believe they were ever considered a special forces outfit.

In case you do see this, keep in touch, John.
