I just finished reading "Operation Valkyrie" by Pierre Galante. I am intrigued by the character and history of the narrator who was one of Hitler's staff generals, Adolf Heusinger. On p. 255 of the book, near the end of the war in March 1945, it is said that Heusinger "left his family" and eventually surrendered to an American patrol. Did he ever reunite with his family after the war? How did Heusinger avoid prosecution at the Nuremburg War trials, and why was he allowed to continue in military service in Germany and the U.N. after the war?
