New Red Sandstone

I have several locations in my boondocks property that evidences an abundance of Red Sandstone, in both the shale and the round red stones, too. Basically my property is covered with a fairly thick layer of rich gray sandy loam. In several places, I have this red sandstone come to the surface. My question is, what type of fossils would possibly be found inside these rocks that have definite strata layers visible when they were formed? I feel something has to have been trapped when these layers from 1/4 inch to 1 inch in thickness, accumulated over time. What should I look for? Are fossils more apt to be trapped in the hard round red rock stones from 8 to 12+ inches in diameter or in the large flat red sand stones, which are many times 10 inches thick?
