Scotopic sensitivity syndrome

I have had trouble reading since I was really young, but not like the kind of trouble you can fix with reading recovery. I know how to read perfectly well, but when I read too long the letters seem to dance around on the page and mush together, and it's almost like there is a thin black film over my eyes, making it harder to see. My mother has taken me to see numerous eye specialists when I was in junior high, but none of them could figure out what it was. Now that I've started high school, it has been hard to stay attentive in class, because most of the stuff we do involves independant reading. Now that I've heard about Scotopic sensitivity syndrome, I was wondering if that could possibly be what is causing me so much grief. If anyone could help me out here I'd be much obliged.

I'm sorry it took me so long to read your question, but my son was just diagnosed w/ this at his school today. They say a fix is as easy is having colored overlays (transparent sheets) to help the words not move around, blur or become fuzzy. Each person has a color or combonation of 2 or 3 colors that help them. He was diagnosed thru his school. If you go to your school counselor and let her know that you think you have this..you can probably be test thru your school. This is not a vision problem. Good luck and I'd like to hear how it goes for you.
