Battle of Carnifex Ferry

I have found casualty data from the battles of Carnifex Ferry and Kessler's Cross Lanes, which include only military casualties. My great, great grandfather was killed on Sept. 10, 1861, but he was not a soldier.
Where are there data regarding civilian casualties?

Note: The lone gravesite of my great, great Grandfather, Nicholas Hance Ramsey, is at the end of Mt. Lookout Rd. in Nicholas County and uses the term "murdered" on it. This term is not normally used in the course of a military engagement.
