I have an original Pattern 1853 Barnett Enfield. Markings are:
. Barnett London on the lock plate. No crown or Tower.
. I.C. (Issac Curtis) on the left side of stock, under the barrel, inside the lock.
. J.S. in a circle (no anchor) on the stock near the butt plate
. Code date 960 under barrel.
. Bench made, not "parts interchangable". Has bench markings on all parts. 3 slash marks.
. London proofs
. I know that Issac Curtis worked for S. Issac, Campbell Co. which supplied the Confereracy.

What do I have?

Headhunter,

Based on the information you have posted, it sounds as if you have a ... Confederate-inspected in England / Confederate-purchased in England ... P-53.

If you could email me some photos, I will be happy to confirm this.

I have been a student and collector of Confederate Enfield rifles and rifle muskets since the 1980s.

Best,

Artillerist
