I have a wild allium growing on my allotment and wish to know if it is safe to eat and hopefully what its latin name is. It has a rounded stem and leaves and a sinfle small white bulb (so far). It is around the 50 cms mark in height. Now and then I have seen stems that do the 'serpent' thing but not so far this year. I will photograph it when the buds open.

In the "Edible wild plants book, A north American field guide; Thomas S. elias and Peter A. Dykeman, 1990" It shows the wild onion (Allium Cernuum), wild garlic (Allium Canadense), wild leek (Allium tricoccum), none of them match the picture so further searching would be needed. The book does caution that there are some poison look-alikes and states "to avoid onion like plants that lack the onion odor, such as Death Camass" I found a picture of it on Wikiepedia to reference.
