I have a small 2 horsepower 120VAC portable air compressor that starts fine on the line voltage in my shop. I have used it many times on a generator (5000 watt)but now it will not start when the pressure switch calls for it to run. The motor turns slowly until it trips out. If I discharge the air then compressor will start but even then it seems to struggle more than when it is connected to house current. I have not tested it because it is starting fine on house current but here is the capacitor info:
