I have a sheet of aluminium around the flue of my wood burning stove and when it gets hot it smells strange. Is this dangerous to us, especially youngsters, or is it harmless?

For one thing I strongly imagine that most of what is simply said to be "aluminum" that our various useful things are made of is actually an alloy of MOSTLY aluminum. Zinc is probably one of the more elements combined with it I would think. Then besides that Aluminum is very often if not painted with some coating then likely it's plated with something. This of course because aluminum is so reactive it will just rather "rot" away if something isn't protecting it. Platings could be various metals chrome, zinc, cadmium? who knows? My point I guess is that you likely have more than just aluminum there. How about contacting poison control or something? Maybe there are some more common health threats along these lines they are aware of? Good Luck and I don't blame your concern at all!
