I have a photo taken in the 1920's which shows a relative wearing a bowler hat on a boat trip on a lake. He is Scottish so the picture could have been taken on a Scottish loch. However he also visited Springfield Ohio in the 1920's so it could have been one of the great lakes. I know that in the UK at the time bowler hats were formal city wear. Does anybody know if they were fashionable leisurewear in the US and particularly around Chicago?
