Colostomy

I have a non reversible colostomy and at the time of surgery I was told that my daily routine as far as bowel movements would be the same as prior to surgery. It has been 3 years since my surgery and I am constantly having a movement. Is this normal or this there something I should be doing. I should also say that my stool never ever goes down into the bag and I have to constantly remove waste. This is very discouraging and I have gotten so that I do not want to leave my home because of this. Does anyone else have this issue?

You will constantly have movements. You have no rectum (which stores the waste until you have a full load). Now it goes into your exterior "rectum" (bag).

Oh! I have had this for ten+ years!

If you have a firm stool it will stay close to the stoma. You should not clean constantly but frequently maybe. Once your body gets adjusted to the new arrangement it will be better.

I can swim, tube the rive and so on. I know it is a *&^% but small adjustment s can be made and you activities can be pretty normal.
