I have a group of students researching the Ash Wednesday fires. They are entering the National history Challenge and the theme is 'Triumph over adversity' Would anyone who went through the fires be able to answer their question about how people who were affected by the fires have restarted their lives ... rebuilt their houses etc been supported by family and friends etc

I would be happy to provide information for your students - if I am not too late for your timelines? I was 9 years old when the fires ripped through the town of Cockatoo. My family and I have memories that will never leave us, as to the devastation caused throughout the town, families, and the community.
Let me know if I can be of any help. Am still in contact with a few of the childhood friends and family (including people who were in Emerald at the time)who may also be willing to assist.
