I have a M-1917 winchester that belonged to my GrandDad.
I hunted with it for many years on loan to my mother
for my Dad. When Dad died in 1985, mama told me to
return the gun to her brother, rightly so. Later,
her brother died and I lost contact with the gun.
Last year, I found out that my uncle's daughter had
the gun. I bought if from her, had it refinished and
all that stuff.

My question, it shoots great at 100yds. and you can't
hit within 12 inches of the target at 250-300yds. I
am using Hornady 150gr. SST bullets. Does that gun
need a higher grain bullet or a different brand of
bullet. I killed a lot of deer with that gun useing
Remington 180gr., all my shots were within 125yds.
I would appreciate any advice in regard to the correct
amunition. The gunsmith said the bore looked good.
The reason for this question, just missed a great
buck @ approx. 250yds.
