I have a Browning 243 built on a Sako action(L579 I think). The gun was built in 1967. I can't seem to find scope bases for it. I know they were made at one time but probably discontinued. I have ordered 2 sets of bases that were supposed to fit but didn't.(Redfield 511131) The box was even marked Browning Sako 243. The rear holes line up but not the front. The hole spacing on my rifle is 3/4" center to center and the Redfield spacing is 7/8" center to center. These measurements are for the front mount holes. The rear holes are 1/2" center to center. Can anyone help me find the right bases? Thanks

Sorry for the delayed reply, but I just came across your post (02/04/12) - I might have some information on the correct base mount for your Browning 243, as I have a similar problem and found a base that might fit your rifle.

My Browning 243 has the 24" heavy barrel, and the front hole spacing is 7/8" c/c, and rear 1/2" as you described for the Redfield 511131 mounts you have.

Please reply - we may be able to get the correct mounts for both rifles!

Thanks,
Jim
