I have a 1981 TR7 Convertible. When closing the passenger door, the striker (U shape on door pillar) only latches into the door lock to the first position. The door will not close to the 2nd or final locking position....

I have a 1981 TR7 Convertible. When closing the passenger door, the striker (U shape on door pillar) only latches into the door lock to the first position. The door will not close to the 2nd or final locking position. The door lock appears to bottom out on the striker.
Any possible ideas/solutions please?
