I had this question on a test in social psychology and I anwsered it wrong. I need some understanding the best anwser. I have read the sections on cognitive dissonance theory over and over and I'm still not able to figure out the correct anwser. my original anwser was (c.)

According to dissonance theory, a mother who wants her
child to believe that having a clean room is a good thing
should
a. provide a mild threat of punishment for having a
dirty room
b. reward the child with money for cleaning her room
c. raise the child’s general self-esteem
d. keep her own room clean to provide a good model.

After rereading the material I frist thought maybe it is (B) bassed on insufficient justification, but the the anwser is unclear about how much monitary reward is being given.

Then I thought it might be (A) based on the forbiden toy experiment, but the question states that mary's mother wants her to believe that having a clean room is a good thing.

Then I considerd (D) that the mother shouls keep her clean to prvide a good model. I can kinda see how this one applies too because the dissonance theory deals with the inconsistances between peoples attitudes, behavior, and the presure to remove the negative inconsistances while trying to restore consistency or consonance.

I would really appreicate some explaining which one of these is the best choice related to dissonance thoery. Thank you Michael
