I bought a number of trading cards for 'Far West Gum' at a French village flea market recently. The scenes are illustrations from the 19th century American wild west: roping, branding, Indians, settlers, stampedes, and the like. The cards I have start with no.1 ('Davy Crockett Defending the Alamo') and continue with a broken series to no. 48 ('Saving the Wounded'). The captions are in English, the fuller descriptions are in French. The advertisement reads" "Gomme Macher 'Globo' Gonflafle / Demandez contre 25 Enveloppes notre Fleche 'Sioux'." My guess is that these cards were originally American
