I bought a new gun today from Walmart. To make a long story short, the serial number on the box, paperwork and gun all matched saying the gun is a 20 gauge which we wanted and THOUGHT we bought....the gun is actually the 12 gauge of this same model. Remington did not put the correct number on this gun. Dealer (WalMart) will not refund my money or even exchange this gun for that matter. Remington has a policy not to do exchanges or refunds on any firearms, which is understandable. Law officials tell me that the gun isn't actually "legally" registered because it is registered as a 20 instead of a 12. It was bought for our oldest son who will be practicing up for next years hunting season. Sure glad we noticed that it was a 12 gauge instead of a 20 and didn't allow him to load a 20 shell and shoot...
Is there ANY advice of what we can do to get the gun that I "intended" to buy if it weren't for manufacture errors??? Thanks

I see this is an old post but if you still have this gun I a would be interested in buying it or replacing it with the 20 ga, you wanted.

Did the serial number on the gun match that on the paperwork? I assume the answer is no, in which case you should have legal recourse. If Walmart has sold you an improperly registered firearm, and the Walmart rep you've communicated with refused to help remedy the situation, you need to contact someone higher up in the authority structure of Walmart. You may need to write to a general manager, or have an attorney write to the general manager. The National Firearms Act makes it unlawful for a person to have a firearm that is not registered specifically to them.
Walmart has created a baaad situation! What if someone, legally or otherwise comes into posession of the 20 guage that is, on paper, registered to you, and then uses that weapon to hold up a 7-11, and in the confusion of the moment they somehow leave that 20 guage at the scene of the crime. Who do you think the authorities are going to be VERY interested in? That's right, you! Conversely, legal problems of several kinds could conceivably arise from the fact that there is now this unregistered 12 guage in your, or somebody's posession. If you haven't resolved this yet, I would strongly urge you to do so.
