I am the son of Captain Benjamin Brooks. I have the ships bell off the Belknap DD-251. When dad had command he had the bell painted grey so it would not reflect sunlight and give away the ships position. The bell appears to be solid brass. I would like to remove the grey paint without hurting the bell. Paint remover does not work. Does anyone have any ideas?
