I am searching for my roots. From a US alien registration form I learned that my grandfather, George Basbanes, was born in a village known as "Maritsa" in 1882. I cannot locate it but I believe that is is was or is in the Tricola Prefecture.
I recall my father telling me that the name of the village was changed, maybe to Oxinia. I found a village by that name. Does anyone know if the present Oxinia was formerly Maritsa and if so where birth records would be located for persons born there in the 1880's?
