I am researching my ancestor Ludwig Heinrich Otto von Landsberg from Schloss Landsberg, Germany, who sold the castle and immigrated to South Africa in 1800's. He had a daughter, Maria Catherina Jacoba Landsberg and she married James Greatham. They had a daughter Elizabeth Ernestine Greatham who married a Delport. She was my greatgrandmother.

I understand that he was a relative of Queen Victoria, and would like to know what the family connection is with the royal family? From Wikipedia I learnt that Landsberg is an old bergisches and Westphalian noble family and that the lines of the Baron and Count von Landsberg exist today.

How can I contact the Landberg families and find out more about the period before 1800's ?

My professor teaching at Cologne University of Applied Science is definitely a descendent of the family, since it's confirmed by other professors as well as as the older inhabitants of the place where he and his brother are living now, the german city Lindlar. His name is Georg von Landsberg.

I have doc's that was written in 1881, otto-rabe vond lansberal. this document is in old german regarding Frederick Urlrich otto rabe von lansberg. This document is also regarding information on the castle. I would love to find out if we are relatives.

I have e-mailed you and would like to discuss this further. I am a 6th generation descendant from the Von Landsberg family that moved to South Africa in 1818. I have fairly accurate information on the family going back to about 1432 (have the info at home). I would dearly like more information about the connection with Schloss Landsberg though which I have visited in 2008 but could not find any direct proof of a link.

Hi,
If you send me whatever details you have, I will look and see whether I can find a link for you. I can trace my family back to around 1432, so just maybe we are related. We left Braunsweig and arrived in South Africa in September 1818.
You can also go to the website www.geni.com and get some info. It is free.

If you go to www.geni.com and search for the Von Landsberg group you can access a lot of the information. Prior to Jobst George there are some gaps and we are currently working on trying to fill more of that. I've just returned from Germany again where we went to some of the places to find missing records (no luck this time but at least I was at the Oktoberfest). My uncle Jopie (JPH Landsberg from Pretoria) published a book in 2001 that also has vast amounts of info.
What is your husband's name and date of birth? I'll see what I can track for him.

Hi Ida,
The book is not in print anymore but I will see what I can do to at least get you an electronic copy of it. Please send me your e-mail address. I may be able to get you a pdf copy.
I would appreciate any information that you may be willing to share, i.e. photos, letters, birth or death certificates, etc. Also if you can give me details of your great-great grandmother etc. Just to see where I can place her.
Thanks for the contact.

Hello George
I am the great great grand daughter of Julia Elizabeth Maria Landsberg - Otto and Maria's daughter.
My great grandfather was Martin Landsberg. They immigrated to Southern Rhodesia with one of the treks and arrived in Bulawayo.
My family have been in Zimbabwe since then until 2001 whereafter most of us have had to immigrate to various parts of the world.

I am presently resident just south of Pietermaritzburg. I have just managed to order the book Otto Landsberg 1803 - 1905 from the Uk.
I am currently looking for any information and history on the family.

My great grand mother Rhoda Wade was the niece of Dick King, and her family arrived in RSA and settled in the Bathurst area. She met and Martin Landsberg in Durban when they were living on one of Dick Kings farms in KZN.

Kind regards
Wendy

Hi Wendy,
Your great-grandfather and -mother is properly documented and we are surely related far removed. Have you been to the geni.com website to check the tree. Please do so. You can do with the free subscription. If you e-mail me direct at george.landsberg@gmail.com or GLandsberg@goscor.co.za I could possibly send you some screenshots or other documents.
My one uncle Jopie also did a local book on the matter. Unfortunately it is out of print but I have all the texts and I am hoping to someday get down to updating it and reprint.
Regards
George
